Institute Presentation

The Catalan Health Institute (ICS) is a leading organization in the Catalan public health system, both in attending patients as well as in teaching and research. The Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), a tertiary and university teaching hospital under public ownership, belongs to ICS. The Eating Disorders Unit of the HUB is recognized as an assistance and research unit by the Generalitat of Cataluña (2017 SGR1247) and is part of the Biomedical Research Networking Center (CIBER) for Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN – CB06/03/0034). Its national and international prestige is due to its active participation in numerous international multicenter research projects and relevant international Consortia where Fernando Fernandez-Aranda acts as PI (World consortium for Genetics of Anorexia nervosa-Psychiatry; Playmancer; COST BM1105; EhcoButler; Eat2beNice, PRIME).

Our institution has access to a large existing database (PREDIMED-PLUS database) containing detailed information on body composition (weight/BMI, body fat (impedance), cardiovascular risk (incl. hypertension), altered insulin signaling (blood glucose and blood glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), medication and cognitive variables. As part of PRIME, our members will capitalize on a large existing cohort – such as PREDIMED-Plus – to reveal the potential of insulin-related comorbidity treatments. Moreover, in the scope of an observational study, new data will be collected via ecological momentary assessment to analyze in-depth the interplay between psychological factors (affective-emotional state, perceived stress, impulsivity, affect and emotional), behavioral measures (physical activity) and dietary-nutritional patterns leading to DM2 and associated depression.

ICS – HUB declares no conflict of interest in PRIME.
